If you see the additional footage floating around the web or on "To Catch A Predator: Raw", you can see how sickeningly upbeat and confident he was, approaching the home and walking in. He was smiling and laughing - like a fox in the hen house - right up to when Chris Hansen asked "so how can I help you?"

That makes the humongous 180° that much more satisfying. You can see the exact moment when his smug elation collapses, and the realization of how much trouble he is in sets in. His eyes narrow, his brow furrows, his head sinks, and his voice gets all crazy... Like, he sounded possessed when he spoke, and you could hear him building up to his freak-out.

That's one of the only moments where a busted predator actually made a motion towards Chris Hansen. Kay was wide-eyed and crazy, when he came at Hansen and grabbed the transcript. Here's footage of disgraced Rabbi David Kaye losing his mind.

I'm aware of the whole situation in lockup. I was mostly just letting my contempt for Rabbi David Kaye freestyle. I think he's an a-hole, and I'm not afraid to say it.

I don't really feel like delving into various paraphilia and the enforcement/definition of law... Simply put, Kaye preyed on a minor - an illegal act - and paid the price. What made me so outraged was that he's a man in a position of power and trust over his community, preying on a kid. I'm not surprised he did everything in his power to have the charges dropped, but the evidence of his crime was pretty overwhelming for him to try to pull the "role playing" or "a computer virus did it" defense.

The evidence provided by Perverted-Justice.com was considered sound in every criminal case in which it was utilized, that I'm aware of. I know there was at least one case they were involved in that lead to an acquittal, but I don't know if it was as a result of their evidence, or what (sometimes folks get lucky and face a lousy prosecutor, skate through a legal loophole, have an incompetent judge, etc.).

Do I agree with them all the time? No, of course not. I don't even agree with myself all the time, depending on the time of day. Perverted-Justice's top contributors lumping all the *chans together, when only a few individual members were presumably-guilty (nobody was sure they were in a country with such laws) of possessing and distributing child pornography (which I don't generally feel lolicon artwork really should fall under, being it's a fictional drawing with no actual exploitation of anyone - it's like saying drawing a murder is the same as actually committing murder, or thinking of committing a crime is the same as actually committing a crime) is one of the bigger points I've disagreed with them over and is partial motivation for me to become less involved in recent years. I also don't agree with them pursuing innocuous pedophiles/hebephiles/ephebophiles/etc. who haven't actually committed a crime, given probable cause to suspect they've committed a crime, or strongly advocated criminal behavior. Really, I've disagreed with a modest handful of their various tactics, stances on legislation, and other odds-and-ends over the years... But I can't say they aren't still doing mostly-positive work. IMO, they, with the help of Dateline NBC, probably made the biggest impact on making folks aware of the degree online predators pervade chatrooms.

PJ volunteers have been very involved in monitoring and making public the activities of Jack Justin McClellan, and helped promote support for California Assembly Bill 534, making it a crime to "engage in surrogate stalking, which is the act of publishing photos, physical descriptions, and/or locations of children with the intent that another person uses that information to commit a crime against a child." The bill was heavily influenced by public outrage against McClellan's activities.

They were also keeping tabs on and making public the activities of Lindsay Ashford (aka "Zanthalon" and David Alway), but his relocation to the Netherlands has made him a difficult target.

I think the interaction of PJ-involved volunteers has also help helped, to some degree or another, in the arrest and/or conviction of Christopher Smithson, Harold Spurling, Jeff Brisson, Jonathan Johnson, former FBI Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitive Dylan Thomas, and a few others I can't quickly recall (I'm casually scanning over arrest/conviction news I've previously posted in my journal). IMO, that's some pretty good work, for volunteers.

Really, what more can you expect the public do but become aware, spread awareness, notify the authorities if they find evidence someone is breaking the law, and support common sense legislation that protect those that might be easily victimized? If you really can do more, then props to you. But, then, is it necessary to start a big pissing contest to see who's the bigger dog in the yard?

Hi - this post came up when I was trying to find out for my mom when this POS gets out. She just called me after watching his episode of To catch a predator (her favorite one of the series) and said it was filmed in 2004, but we don't know when he actually started his sentence.

You seem to have followed it pretty closely (for the same reasons as my mom and I; his utter arrogance approaching the house, his continued arrogance when he tried to manipulate Hanson, and his blubbery freak out upon discovering the laws apply to him, too), so do you happen to know when he does it out?

Assuming your wish doesn't come through and he doesn't accidentally slam his head into the concrete floor a whole bunch of times or accidentally drown with his head stuck in the toilet bowl surrounded by his own kind floating about? . :^D

Thanks for posting all of this and helping keep people awake to what's out there and that we do need to be proactive and stay educated.

Last I recall hearing, after his appeal was denied, David Kaye was scheduled for supervised-release in the beginning of 2012. He'll be under supervision for 10 years after his release, as well as sex-offender registration, mental health counseling, will have to submit to polygraph and penile plethysmograph (sexual arousal) tests as directed by parole officer, shall not have any unsupervised access to the internet, will not have access to pornographic material, will not be able to take a position with any group that works with children, shall not be in the presence of children without supervision, will be subjected to regular drug tests, and will be sent back to FCI Petersburg should he not comply or violate the terms of his parole. That's assuming nobody changes the conditions of his release, for some reason or another.

If you check out the Perverted-Justice.com message board thread on David Kaye (you may need to register for a free account), it goes into great detail about the entire case. It will likely be up-to-date on David Kaye happenings, and they'll likely be involved in notifying his neighbors, upon his release.

David Kaye is certainly a smug bastard, but I can't say I agree that he deserves to be raped or beaten or killed in prison. I think having his freedom taken away from him for almost six years, followed by ten years of supervised release, on top of expecting a lifetime of Dateline-created infamy, is more than sufficient punishment for trying to have sex with a boy.

My predominant sensible side agrees, but I can honestly say I wouldn't lose a second of sleep if he were to never see the light of day, again. Predators who go to great lengths to put themselves in a position of power over their quarry (teachers, religious leaders, politicians, guidance counselors, etc.) irk me far more than most any other variety of predator out there. IMO, such preparation shows a greater degree of malevolence, within them.

How do you know his whole career consisted of this evil plot to earn trust and respect so he could abuse children? Is it possible that he was once idealistic and altruistic, with a sincere longing to serve God and community and that he later became corrupted?

Well, sure... Anything is possible. But I've gotten tired of giving child predators the benefit of the doubt, and then have them routinely blow that up. Almost all of the predators I had done some volunteer follow-up work on, ended up repeatedly violating the terms of their parole, within months of release - either surreptitiously accessing the internet, not updating their sex offender registry, disappearing, or outright re-offending. In actuality, only ONE individual has ever come out accepting they made a big mistake, took earnest efforts to rehabilitate himself, and become an upstanding citizen. The rest... "KA-BOOM!"

Near as I can tell, Kay wasn't of any rogue Judaic sect that has a known history of fostering or harboring sex offenders... so I'm less inclined to suspect that somehow he was groomed into a child predator, in that setting. Yeah, yeah, I had posted that picture of him with the two sex offender Rabbis, Israel Kestenbaum and Jerrold Levy, but that was a chance happening - they had no history of working together. I feel pretty safe saying that Kaye did not pick up the urge to be a child predator among his Rabbinic career or congregation.

If Rabbi David Kaye was corrupted by some outside force - capable of overwhelming his better judgment, education, and connection with his god - I'm apt to suspect that he already had some underlying compulsion, that has existed in him for a looong time. I mean, really, it's not like the flu... Folks generally don't just up and catch the urge to molest little boys.

Considering that, it's possible that his path to Rabbinic Judaism might have been indirectly led by his compulsion - perhaps guilt, or perhaps under the conception it would help him control it. Or, yeah, maybe he really was all gum drops and lollypops, until 20 minutes before he was busted. Heck, he could have been under mind control.

My mind is plenty-broad enough to consider a whoooole lot of other possibilities. But, personally, I've less inclination to give him the benefit of the doubt - either due to past involvement with such cases, or the fact that I've grown quite unwilling to show courtesy to convicted child sex predators. And, ya know...? I totally have no trouble sleeping at night, with that decision.
